Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association - Jane Paul Indigenous Women’s Resource Centre

The Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association (NSNWA) is a provincial Indigenous organization that helps empower Indigenous women by being involved in developing and changing legislation, which affect them and by involving them in the development and delivery of programs promoting equal opportunity for Mi’kmaq women and their families. The NSNWA is a collective of 16 local chapters across Nova Scotia: the 13 First Nations communities, plus three off reserve zones of Halifax, Sydney, and South Shore.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Jane Paul Indigenous Women’s Resource Centre provides a variety of support and services to vulnerable Indigenous women and girls, who reside off reserve and away from community resources, many of whom find themselves in high-risk situations. The prevention model of the Jane Paul Indigenous Women’s Resource Centre includes a Mi’kmaq traditional component to help guide and protect Indigenous women and girls. 

PROGRAM SUPPORTS: Internet access; Hot meals; Clothing bank; Harm reduction materials; Life-enhancing resources; Cultural ceremonies and teachings; Skills development; Educational and employment skills.
